Camp Renaissance Goes National and International!
Camp Renaissance Welcomes International Visitors
Each year, Camp Renaissance welcomes special visitors from abroad. International staff members and campers have hailed from Northern Ireland, Australia, South Africa, the Republic of Ireland, Israel, Sri Lanka, Burundi, Italy and Spain.
Renaissance Concept Gains National (and International) Acclaim
The Renaissance concept was conceived by Dan Doyle in 1992. The success of Camp Renaissance resulted in the concept being replicated in Belfast, Northern Ireland in a special program designed to unite Protestant and Catholic youth. The favorable results of the Northern Ireland program has led to other "Renaissance" programs, including a highly successful intercollegiate program hosted by Bates College. At the Bates "Renaissance Games," students from 29 schools and six countries participated.
Another step in the "Renaissance Revolution" occurred in June 2005. The Institute for International Sport at The University of Rhode Island, which Dan directs, hosted the first Intercollegiate Renaissance Games, featuring 12 colleges and universities from throughout the world, including a special delegation from the University of Queensland, Australia.
Volume II of Dan's "The Encyclopedia of Sports Parenting," to be published in 2011, will contain a full chapter on "Renaissance Education."
